Grace Freeman - Shadow (2017)

OFFICIAL: http://www.gracefreeman.net/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/gracefreemanmusic/ Written by Larry Robertson, posted by blog admin Nineteen Grace Freeman isn’t a newcomer to the music world, but her first solo album Shadow represents the fullest invocation of her talents free from and unfettered by any outside songwriting contributions. The eleven songs included in the release are entertaining musical excursions guided by a supremely talented singer, but they likewise play as intensely personal statements that, nonetheless, remain accessible to her intended audience all the while. It largely embraces the acoustic guitar as the primary instrument, but Freeman isn’t afraid to incorporate other instruments into her sonic palette and it results in Shadow coming off as a delicious versatile collection that never lacks for eloquence or entertainment value. The production is remarkably sympathetic to her aims and stages her compositions in the best possible methods

KALO - Wild Change (2017)

OFFICIAL: http://www.kaloband.com/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/kaloblues TWITTER: https://twitter.com/kaloblues                       Written by Frank McClure, posted by blog admin KALO, led by singer/guitarist extraordinaire Bat-Or Kalo, is based out of Oklahoma and has earned a reputation in recent years as one of the most individual roots based music acts working today. They’ve advanced deep into numerous music competitions as well as headlining or being featured on a number of festival bills. This is a band that makes long-standing forms like blues, R&B, and funk sound like they are the first band to tackle it thanks to the rocking, two-fisted passionate approach they take to the music. There’s a wonderfully visceral live quality to the performance as well – it sounds like they recorded this album with all the musicians in the room and the combustible interplay between the three piece lights up each of the eleven songs on the latest release Wild Change

Dust of Days - Analog Mind Bender (2017)

OFFICIAL: http://dustofdays.com/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/dustofdays/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/dustofdays Written by Daniel Boyer, posted by blog admin Dust of Days’ second full length studio album, Analog Mind Bender, greatly expands on the possibilities hinted at on their debut release, Thomas & Grace, and its EP successor Ethers and Embers. Frank Lettieri Jr.’s songwriting, already quite solid, has been deepened by his response to personal tragedy and the new territory he’s pushed himself into has an obviously inspiring effect on his band mates, particularly guitarists Jim McGee and Mike Virok, and results in their most memorable work yet as a band. Bassist Scott Silvester rounds out the lineup and he forms a mammoth rhythm section with Lettirei’s drumming. The alt rock muscle they flex on this release is cast in the best possible light by warm, visceral production that keeps the music in your face throughout the entirety of the release, but know

Chris Murphy - Hard Bargain (2017)

OFFICIAL: http://chrismurphymusic.com/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/chrismurphymusic1/ VIDEO: (“Cape Horn”) http://chrismurphymusic.com/video/ Written by Frank McClure, posted by blog admin Hard Bargain is the latest full length release from violinist and songwriter Chris Murphy. For those unfamiliar with Murphy’s work, violinist doesn’t even begin to describe his abilities. Murphy is a multi-instrumentalist and talented vocalist with the uncanny talent for fully incorporating his voice as another instrument in the musical arrangement rather than somehow keeping it separate. Murphy made the unusual decision to record this new collection in front of a live audience and it creates an unique listening experience that goes far beyond what the typical studio album is capable of. Murphy is a quality force in the studio, his recordings always crackle with inspiration, but it takes on new dimensions in a live setting that makes the material seem all the larger. The pro

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot - Songs for Mixed Company (2017)

OFFICIAL: https://www.thunderboltandlightfootband.com/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/thunderboltandlightfoot/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thunderboltandlightfootband/ Written by Mike Yoder, posted by blog admin Phil Barry and Sarah Fuerst’s collaboration under the name Thunderbolt and Lightfoot marks a next natural step for these two respected figures on the Midwestern indie and folk scene. The confluence of their talents, first exhibited on their self-titled debut EP, takes the main stage here with a full length studio album and it certainly smacks of much more than regional desires. These are one of those rare working partnerships where one performer truly inspires and prods the other to heights they might not have reached on their own otherwise. Songs for Mixed Company is a ten song collection that certainly embraces its folk roots, but there are dashes of something truly different in many of the performances that set it apart from typical efforts in
